Tumelo Mzwakhe is a name that might sound unfamiliar to many, however, only a few names shine brighter than Sir Trill in the amapiano vocals scene. The hitmaker has captivated both local and international audiences with his infectious vocals and has had a great influence on the amapiano sound we know and love today.
Sir Trill’s career has been one full of woes and hardships, which the artist has been open and upfront about with his supporters. In a recent interview with hip-hop sensation L-Tido on his podcast, which was his first interview since his rise to stardom, the artist shared his challenges and frustrations with the music industry.
The Emlanjeni hitmaker revealed that there is an individual that is actively sabotaging his career by blocking him from releasing any music and convincing other artists to not collaborate with him. However, when asked about the identity of the individual, he says he would rather not divulge it for his own safety.
“I don’t want to say anything about anybody because sometimes it gets too dangerous, it might even threaten your life. I still respect that person as an elder. Let me not put your name out there because you know yourself. And it’s not just me who is going through it, others are just scared to say,” says Sir Trill.
Furthermore, the artist revealed that he has not made any money from the music he has released, despite releasing multiple charting hit songs such as ‘John Wick’, and ‘Nkantin‘ and featuring on ‘Izolo’ by Dj Maphorisa.
He claims he was dealt a bad hand by people in the industry who knew more than him. This experience encouraged him to learn more about the business side of the music industry and encouraged other up-and-coming artists to do the same to avoid a similar fate.
Some supporters empathised with Sir Trill and shared words of encouragement directed at the artist.
“His story makes me so sad. Exploitation of its highest order. It really shouldn’t be this way,” says one user.
