World Cup-winning captain of the Springboks Siya Kolisi has found himself in the spotlight once again, this time, facing criticism from Jacky Lorenzetti, the owner of his club side Racing 92.
According to The Telegraph, the French billionaire, who has owned Racing 92 since 2006, did not hold back in his assessment while speaking with French rugby newspaper Midi Olympique. Jacky expressed disappointment with Siya’s the performances.
He specifically highlighted that Siya’s decline started after the break that he took for his hand surgery, noting that he had, “put on weight” and was “anonymous” during the critical match against Bordeaux.
“Siya had a remarkable start to the season, where he was a unifying presence off the field, the break was harmful for him. He put on weight, lost form and yesterday he was anonymous. On the back row.”
The South African publication states that Siya recently acknowledged being out of shape, attributing it to enjoying the excellent food in his new surroundings.
He admitted gaining five kilograms upon arrival, prompting a blunt comment from a physiotherapist that made him adjust his diet and train more.
“The food is amazing here, that’s why I gained too much weight when I got here,” Siya said.
“I gained five kilograms and then, I remember getting to the gym and one of the physios said: ‘You look like ****’. That’s why I had to cut down on the food.”
