With so much excitement in the air due to former Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp’s recent visit to Cape Town, there was no way that he was going to leave the country without a meet-up with a special friend of his.
As a sports-loving nation, South Africans have been spoiled for choice when it comes to the number of international sports stars who have visited the country in the last couple of months. First it was the Ireland rugby player Jonny Sexton, later the American gymnast Simone Biles and her NFL husband, Jonathan Owens, and now more recently Jurgen Klopp.
The former Reds boss has been spotted all over the Mother City with some popular sightings including the V&A Waterfront as well as Hout Bay.
It is reported that Jurgen visited the country in support of the 10th anniversary of the Hout Bay United Football Community Trust where he was a special guest.
In the past, the 57-year-old has been heavily involved with helping the club raise funds in order to give those under their care the best opportunity to make a success of their lives through sport.
Speaking about the most recent visit to an event held on Thursday, he told reporters that this time he aimed to sit back and enjoy the celebrations.
“Helping United FC in the last few years… I tried to help as much as I could.”
“Today I was there, and I just said to the guys, ‘I’ll sit there in the back.”
While several locals had their opportunity to meet the football icon, what was a visit to South Africa going to be without meeting up with an old friend, Siya Kolisi.
Taking to Instagram, the Bok captain who first met the Jurgen shortly after winning the World Cup in 2019 and is also a big Liverpool fan, shared a picture of the two warmly embracing one another.
Captioning his post, he wrote: “Always special spending time with the Boss Kloppo! Always welcome in South Africa. Until next time.”

Earlier this year, Siya and bok teammate Ox Nche were spotted visiting the club during the Sharks tour to England, there they were warmly welcomed by both staff and players.
