Springbok captain Siyamthanda Kolisi better known as Siya Kolisi bagged an award at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival in New York, Siya Kolisi’s documentary won the top prize as chosen by the audience.
This year saw the debut of the documentary “Rise: The Siya Kolisi Story,” which was based on Siya’s life. According to the Springbok captain’s wife Rachel Kolisi who revealed via her Instagram that the American viewers responded well to the documentary that covered her husband’s life.
“Spent the day with our Roc Nation fam today in NY. Also went to a SOLD OUT Tribecca screening of Rise the Siya Kolisi story,” wrote Rachel on her Instagram post. And her feelings have now been confirmed, with the Tribeca Festival announcing that ‘Rise: The Siya Kolisi Story‘ was given first place in the documentary category of the Audience Awards.
The film festival took to their official Twitter account to announce the exciting news of all that won an award.

Siya’s life was the subject of the documentary with Tebogo Malope as the film’s director.
The premise for the documentary, according to IMDB, is “The story of the first black South African rugby captain who against all odds led the South African national team to win the 2019 World Cup Rugby and in turn unites the country.”
