As October is mental health awareness month, actress Lethabo Mekoa, known for her role in Skeem Saam, is stepping into the spotlight to share her journey with mental health.

In a candid discussion, Lethabo opens up about the struggles and triumphs that shape her perspective, urging people to prioritise their mental well-being.

In her interview with Daily Sun, Lethabo stressed the importance of support for mental health within the entertainment industry.

“Support for mental health within the industry is needed, as it can be a very demanding environment. I wish young talented people would be provided mentorship opportunities and that there would be fair and equal representation of different stories in South African entertainment,” she said.

Lethabo is not alone in her advocacy. According to Global Citizen, former Miss South Africa Shudufhadzo Musida has also been vocal about mental health. During her winning speech at the Miss South Africa 2020 pageant, she pledged to use her platform for this cause. Since then, she has been living up to her promise by collaborating with the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) to launch an online series where she discusses mental health with medical professionals.

Adding to the ongoing conversation, singer Brenda Mtambo recently revealed her struggles with mental health, becoming vocal about how she feels. Her honesty and openness about her experiences serve as a reminder that mental health issues can affect anyone, regardless of their career or public persona.
