For the past few months, actress and TV producer Sonia Mbele kept mum when it came to disclosing news about her health. Now, the former Generations star reportedly shared that she is suffering from an autoimmune disease.
While in conversation with ZiMoja, Sonia shared that she was diagnosed a few months ago before the launch of the third season of The Real Housewives of Johannesburg. “At the time I thought I was just fatigued until my doctors performed additional tests which confirmed that I have anaemia that has gone chronic.”
Due to her alleged illness, Sonia is now taking treatment for iron deficiency via weekly drips and an oxygen tank, since medication does not work on her anymore. “I had to change my diet and eating habits, quit alcohol and I now have to go for drips to make sure I have enough iron,” she told the above-mentioned publication.
She added, “Sometimes additional tests or treatments for iron deficiency are necessary, especially if your doctor suspects that you’re bleeding internally. You can usually correct iron deficiency anaemia with iron supplementation.”
On 27 September, Sonia was expected to appear in court alongside her former business partners after they were charged with failing to submit tax returns to the South African Revenue Service (SARS), according to TimesLIVE. The media boss was, however, a no-show at the Johannesburg magistrate’s court and, through her lawyer, submitted a medical certificate booking her off until 3 October.
The charges against Sonia have since been withdrawn after she signed an admission of guilt statement and paid a R41,000 fine, reports Sunday World.
