We are now officially a few days into the year that is 2025. While the December festivities were one that was definitely needed, sadly all good things have to come to an end.
While there is still lots to explore and plenty to do, the reality is that many of us have come to the part of the year where preparations need to be done for children to transition back to school, while parent need to return to their working duties.
For many, this can be one of the most challenging tasks imaginable – especially if you hoped to have a extra week of rest while the kids are at school. Meanwhile, getting your mind conditioned to focus on the task at hand in the office space can be a challenge as well, this is because many of our minds are still in holiday mode, which makes it particularly difficult to focus on solving complex issues during that first week of working.
The online publication, Selzy, defines this as being post-vacation blues. According to the previously mentioned source this is completely normal and happens to many people after a holiday.
“The abrupt change of routine and having to go back to a stricter set of tasks instead of doing whatever you want makes returning to work stressful. 31% of people dread catching up on administrative tasks, 27% find busy work overwhelming, and 26% feel especially anxious about unread emails and messages,” explains Selzy.
Additionally, Selzy adds that others feel unsatisfied with their holiday, and therefore regret having to return to work without having had a proper reset.
Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to motivate yourself to get back into the rhythm of things and grab this new year by its horns.
Have a full off day, the day prior – To set yourself up for a successful week. Take a day off to rest, and get your mind prepared for what lies ahead. This includes doing grocery shopping, packing meals and tidying your space.
Block meetings on the first day – Lifestyle publication, Crescent Coaching recommends slowing down the pace of your responsibilities when returning. This means avoiding scheduling meetings or tackling important tasks. Instead, catch up on e-mails ease yourself into it.
Delegate tasks – If you have a team that is working alongside you, a useful way to ease into things is by delegating certain tasks among your peers, recommends The Muse.
