Maskandi singer Mthandeni ‘Igcokama Elisha’ Manqele has publicly criticised music executive Dr Sipho Sithole following comments made during an interview on the REAL LIFE RSA podcast.
During the podcast, Dr Sithole discussed the volatile nature of the music industry, using Mthandeni and DJ Thukzin as examples to illustrate his points.
In the interview, He explained that the music business is unpredictable and challenging. He highlighted that while some artists achieve significant success, others struggle to make a lasting impact.
“Not everyone will make it in the music industry,” Sithole remarked. “Some will shine, some won’t. Some will make a fortune, while others won’t.”
“They need to know what belongs to them and what doesn’t belong to them.”
He further emphasised that an artist makes money this year but within 5 years to come the money is finished.
“There’s no artist that made money this year and expects that money to still be available in the next 5 years.”
“You can make a lot of money from one single Dlala Thukzin’s Iplan and Paris Igcokama elitsha’s song.”
According to ZiMOJA, These comments did not sit well with Mthandeni, who felt personally targeted and insulted by Sithole’s remarks. The Maskandi star expressed his displeasure, emphasising the hard work and dedication he has invested in his career.
“I have worked very hard for this brand, making sure that I protect my image including from those who wanted to tarnish it. I don’t know this guy this Sipho Sithole and we are not friends. Those who are close to him must tell him to stop insulting me. He’s ugly and has the smile of a cow,” he said.
Dr Sithelo told ZiMoja that his remarks on the REAL LIFE RSA podcast were about the music business in general and not aimed at any individual.
