Former Muvhango actress Tebogo Thobejane has finally had a sigh of relief following the recent arrest of a suspect involved in carrying out an “attempted hit” on the popular actress in Sandton last year.
Last year the former Diep City actress and her friend were victims of a shooting while returning from a dinner with friends in Morningside.
A source told media publication Sunday World that they left the restaurant in their BMW where Tebogo entered the back seat of the vehicle, while another friend drove closely behind them.
According to the source, a vehicle with gunmen then overtook the car at the back, slotted between the vehicles, and fired shots in the area where Tebogo and her friend were seated.
After surviving the incident, she claimed that this was no coincidence and believed that it was an alleged hit.
In fear for her life, she then found alternative ways of surviving and relocated to Dubai.
“I can’t afford to get bodyguards … I have had to change my son’s school and rearrange my whole life,” she was quoted saying at the time.
This past weekend the South African Police Services (SAPS) confirmed that they were successful in arresting a suspect they believe was involved in the shooting last year.
Following the arrest, she recently spoke to entertainment publication ZiMoja highlighting how relieved she was about the news of the arrest.
“As a woman, it’s disheartening to live in fear due to the unknown. It did not look like it was a robbery or an attempted hijacking. I have my suspicions- it looked like a hit.”
She added: “The recent occurrences have been profoundly troubling, observing a loved one overcome such trauma. Nonetheless, I stand as proof of the remarkable resilience within the human spirit, bolstered by the steadfast support of divine intervention and the dedicated endeavours of the Sandton police force.”
According to Gauteng Police Spokesperson, Colonel Noxolo Kweza, the suspect is expected to make his court appearance today, Monday 29th April.
