TV presenter, Thabiso Makhubela was released from the Johannesburg Correctional Facilities after a brief stint behind bars for charges relating to theft.
The news went viral on social media after an entertainment commentator known as Mlu took to his X (formerly Twitter) to share that Thabiso is allegedly battling a drug problem and has been arrested ever since.
The commentator captioned his post: “Wonder what happened to the talented TV and radio personality, Thabiso Makhubela from Afternoon Express. The talented lad was apparently fired last year due to an alleged drug problem. He has since been behind bars at Johannesburg correctional services.”
Recently, Department of Correctional Services spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo confirmed to TshisaLIVE that Thabiso was arrested but has been released on bail.
“The Department of Correctional Services can confirm Thabiso Makhubela was admitted at a Johannesburg correctional facility on the 4th of April 2024, for charges relating to theft. He was granted bail by the court which he paid and he was released on the 16th of April,” said Singabakho.
Expresso content producer Lucian Albertyn also took the stand to clarify to the above publication why Thabiso parted ways with Afternoon Express.
“He was not fired. He left of his accord,” Lucian said.
Thabiso is known for his presenting skills in Morning Expresso before crossing over to the sister show; Afternoon Express. His talent was first discovered when he entered the Presenter Search which aired on S3, where he emerged a winner in 2018.
While presenting the shows, Thabiso became popular for his comedic acts and impeccable dancing skills.
