Minister Gayton McKenzie, who has been unofficially dubbed as the ‘Minister of Happiness,’ has once again come through for mzansi sports fans with a massive giveaway of 500 Soweto Derby tickets after the highly anticipated event quickly sold out.
The Soweto Derby is one of the oldest and arguably one of the biggest soccer rivalries on the African continent. Dating back to 1970, the clash between Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates has consistently encapsulated the essence of mzansi diski, and all that comes with it. With each team attracting enormous fanbases, this coveted competition has been characterised by intense passion from fans and competitiveness from the players.
With this year’s match-up fast approaching, it comes as no surprise that tickets to the highly anticipated game sold out quicker than fans could shout ‘Laduma!’, leaving some distraught as they did not get ahold of their tickets in time.
Coming to the rescue, the minister of happiness has revealed that via X (formerly Twitter), courtesy of some sponsors, he will be giving away a total of 500 tickets to those who missed out on securing them the first time around.
Before the accusations began, the minister assured citizens that the tickets were not bought with state funds, rather that they were secured through sponsors.

The minister’s comments have quickly been flooded with fans who would love an opportunity to witness one of the most highly anticipated sporting events in the country as Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates battle it out for the ultimate prize, and more importantly, bragging rights for their fans.
