‘There were people with money that funded Kiernan’s murder,’- Tony Forbes

by Bongiwe Mati

Tony Forbes, the father of slain rapper Kiernan Forbes famously known as AKA recently visited Pretoria’s deejay, DJ Hazel Mahazard’s podcast Within with Hazel, where he spoke all things AKA.

The late rapper was gunned down in Durban on the 10th of February 2023, while exiting the Wish establishment with his friend going to a gig, he was booked for.

Speaking to Hazel, Tony revealed that Mbali Mlotshwa who is currently in the process of a divorce with Grammy Award winner Black Coffee was AKA’s first girlfriend.

He also touched on the murder case that has been running since his son’s murder stating that there’s not much more information on it except for what is out there.

When asked if AKA’s death was a hit sent ordered by someone or if it was just an act of crime, Tony responded:

“Oh no, he was assassinated, definitely he was assassinated.”

He continued:

“I cannot go into the details of what we’ve been briefed in relation to the case and the progress that’s been made in terms of the investigation other than what’s on the public record. It took planning, it required resources, so it definitely wasn’t a random case.”

He then went on to detail how the guy walks around until reaching and shooting his son asking how that can be classified as random. He added:

“There’s the second shooter that tries to make sure that the job is done, there’s nothing random about that. So yes, It was a hit, it was an assassination, it was organised. There’s nothing that I’m saying now that’s not confirmed by the police.”

“So definitely, there were people with money behind it that funded it, people with access to resources. Who did it? For me, there is significant progress being made in the investigation, but we have to let the investigation run its course. “

Tony also shared that based on the information given to them by the investigating parties including the NPA they were close to discovering who AKA’s killer was.

Not sure what the motive for his son’s murder was, Tony shared that he is waiting for the court to get to court, as he wants to understand why they killed his son.
