South African actor and comedian Thomas Gumede has won an international award for his film ‘Family and Rugby’ at India’s Krimson Horyzon International Film Festival.
Now in its third year, the IMDb-qualified festival highlights emerging talent and celebrates independent cinema from around the world.
In a heartfelt post, Thomas shared his excitement, saying: “So grateful for another international festival win in India for ‘Family and Rugb’y! I will always give my all to any story that I tell, but the most amazing projects happen when everyone gives their everything, and I’ve been blessed to have that on all my sets. We never shoot thinking ‘ja let’s go get these international awards’ because each day’s achievements on set is enough reward!”
He went on to thank the cast and crew for their dedication.

‘Family and Rugby’ tells the story of a young rugby star struggling to balance his love for the sport with the harsh realities of township life after his brother’s tragic death. The film stars Bongile Mantsai, Ayanda Makhayi, Zandile Msutwana, and Buntu Zatu.

Gumede, a two-time South African Film and Television Award (Safta) winner, earned Best Actor in a TV Drama (2015) and Best Actor in a TV Comedy (2009). In 2022, his Netflix film ‘Kedibone’ won Best African Film at the Septimius Awards.
He has also received international recognition at the New York Film and Cinematography Awards and the Dreamz Catcher International Film Festival in India.
