Time and place, Dr Malinga! Musician’s vlog of Shebeshxt’s daughter’s funeral ‘disrespectful and unAfrican’

Well-known SA musician Dr Malinga came under fire on Saturday for “shooting content” while attending the heartbreaking funeral of Onthatile Chuene, the daughter of rapper Shebeshxt.

Shebshxt, real name Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, his partner, and his daughter, 9, were involved in a horror car accident on the R37 road next to Smelters Mine in Limpopo. His vehicle collided with a truck and overturned.

The heartbroken family laid the little girl to rest during a sombre funeral at the artist’s home township of Lebowakgomo in Limpopo.

According to Sunday World, the large gathering of mourners included artists from around the country and politicians.

Dr Malinga attracted attention for the wrong reason as he was spotted taking photos and videos of himself, Briefly News reported.

According to @MDNnewss, he shared those during the funeral.

@SageIsAgrican said: “ I lost the little respect I had for Dr Malinga, why record at a funeral, let alone a funeral that includes a minor? Sick.”

@Nontobeko73259274 weighed in: “ This is un African and irresponsible of @drmalinga to film the funeral of a child like this, it is the family who would ask a professional cameraman to film the funeral or they would have wanted to have a private funeral with no cameras so you are wrong Malinga.”


@Thendo_Khae_ added: “ It’s not a matter of age it’s a matter of respecting and adhering to the family wishes. You don’t shoot content at funerals especially if you are well known like Mr. Malinga. It’s not African to do such rubbish.”

Shebeshxt was unable to go to his daughter’s graveside as the musician was seen struggling to breathe while holding his oxygen cylinder, Sunday World said.
