Rugby lovers from all over the Mother City were on cloud nine when the much-anticipated HSBC Cape Town Sevens tournament returned to the city.
This is an annual event on the rugby calendar where international teams from all over come to compete in multiple cities across several weeks to play their way to the top of the log standings.
Last week, the tournament took place in Dubai with South Africa’s sevens team, the Blitz Boks, coming out victorious in the final.
With the tournament making its way to home soil this past weekend on Saturday, the 9th of December, and Sunday, the 10th of December, the hosts unfortunately fell short in the quarterfinals to Australia.
It was then Argentina who won the men’s tournament and Australian women who walked away with gold.
After being crowned tournament champions, the two winning teams later ran to the VIP pools to soak themselves in celebration, only for the pool to collapse entirely!

The video of the incident shows several players diving into the pool to join fellow teammates who already found themselves cooling off after the tough tournament.
Later, the Australian women joined in the action as well with many jumping in celebration of the victory.
The pressure of all these bodies seemed to have been a bit too much for the pool’s holding capacity as the entire pool later collapsed, leaving the floor flooded with water.
