Congratulations are in order for South Africa’s very own Trevor Noah who won an Emmy award for Outstanding Talk Series for The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, becoming the first black person to obtain this achievement.
Trevor took over as the host of The Daily Show from Jon Stewart in 2015 and left the American late-night talk show and satirical news programme in 2022.
At the 75th edition of the Emmy awards, which took place on Monday, 15 January at the Peacock Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood’s elite were in attendance, a crowd Trevor is all too familiar with.
Trevor was up against a few giants in the late-night talk show comedy such as Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert and even his predecessor, Jon Stewart.
After accepting his award, the comedian said in his acceptance speech (shared by The Hollywood Reporter on X (formerly Twitter)), “This story has been so long, so crazy, so wonderful … Thank you so much to the team and the person I always thank, the crazy genius, Jon Stewart. Thank you for calling me up and asking me to come join you on this crazy journey … Thank you to these people [on stage]. We did it baby, we did it.”
Trevor also sent out a special thank you to the show’s showrunner, Jen Flanz. “This woman rode with me through the trenches,” further stating, “Thank you so much to the team and everyone who gave us an opportunity.”
