Two years after releasing Zinger Wings flavoured chips, KFC and Simba have another go at new flavour

Collaborations are the holy grail of marketing strategy. Get it right and you’ve hit the sweet spot.

When KFC and Simba released their Zinger Wings flavoured chips in 2022, South Africans rejoiced at a flavour of snacks we could call our own. Oh, and let’s not forget Mrs H.S Ball’s Chutney flavour.

The two brands have come together again and given the people what they want. This time, they’ve partnered to reveal a new Original Recipe flavoured chips.

“With Simba being a homegrown South African favourite and KFC’s delicious Original Recipe Chicken earning a top spot in South African’s hearts over decades, bringing these two iconic brands together again just made sense,” Vilosha Soni, chief marketing officer at Pepsico South Africa, told Biz Community.

“Capturing Mzansi’s unique tastes and the flavour sensations of KFC’s best-kept secret in a crunchy, satisfying Simba chip is a work of art, and the result is truly another revolutionary taste sensation from two of South Africa’s most iconic brands,” added Soni.

Sharing the news on social media, Simba Chips SA wrote: “Guess who’s in the inner circle. Introducing the new #SimbaKFCOriginalRecipe Flavour. No need for questions, you’re welcome. #EnaleThatThing #ItJustMakesSense.”

Promoting the campaign on social media, the Simba lion added a touch of childhood nostalgia and gifted influencers with goodie bags, encouraging them to share their thoughts on X (formerly Twitter).
