South African-born singer Tyla has been making waves across parts of America after the release of her hit single Water. Going from interview to interview, Tyla recently sat down with singer and actress, Jennifer Hudson, on her talk show.
In a short clip of the interview between the two singers that was posted on social media, Jennifer – an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) winner – is first seen congratulating Tyla for her Grammy nomination.
When asked where she was when receiving the nomination, Tyla shared, “I was in my hotel room in New York, and I literally didn’t expect it at all. My label was like, ‘Just watch the livestream. Maybe you’lll get nominated.’ So, I watched the thing [livestream] from the beginning and when I saw my name, yoh, I jumped up. I was screaming!”
The Getting Late singer then shared with Jennifer that it “feels so good” to represent her country, adding, “I have always wanted to have a South African on the same stages as the greats. I just feel like that is the goal, and I really want to become an example for other African artists wanting to do the same.”
The short YouTube clip also shows Tyla teaching the Dreamgirls actress how to do the viral dance for Water.
“Lesson number one, your outfit is good, it’s baggy. Some people wear tight clothes and then nothing shakes,” said Tyla, who received a laugh from the audience when she expressed the sound of shaking the booty as “ga ga ga.”
