If it’s not a Grammy award, it’s a GAP campaign, and this year is Tyla’s year as she bags herself six nominations for her hit single Water.
The internationally acclaimed singer has gone on to achieve great things at the tender age of 22. Tyla, who becomes the youngest musician in South Africa to win a Grammy award, leads the Metro FM awards with six nominations.
As reported by SABC, Tyla has been nominated in the categories of Song of the Year, Best Female Artist, Best Music Video, Best Viral Challenge, and Artist of the Year.
Water is one of the singer’s highest-streamed songs on Spotify, at 15 403 642 streams.
Metro FM business manager Kina Nhlengethwa told SABC that, “the METRO FM Music Awards serve as a celebration of the vibrant tapestry of South African music, where melodies become bridges that connect hearts and souls.”
He further explained that:
“It’s a platform where artists, both established and emerging, showcase their passion and talent, igniting a symphony of inspiration and creativity. Beyond the glitz and glamour, these awards embody the relentless pursuit of excellence and the unwavering dedication to craft.”
Black To The Future is this year’s theme, which is set to highlight the influence, excellence, and creativity to honour the accomplishments and contributions made by black musicians in the music business.
Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela posted the announcement on X (previously known as Twitter), with many users congratulating the singer on her recent accomplishment.

Another user stated that Tyla deserved to win all six awards given her success on her hit single.
If awards were really fair, she should win all of those awards, none of South African song surpass “water” in terms of numbers at the moment, even the music video.
