It’s been a minute since we’ve seen some significant movement from mzansi’s ‘It Girl’ Tyla, and what better way to step back into the spotlight than being named as part of the newly elected MET Gala costume institute benefit host committee?!
After enjoying some well-deserved rest in her homeland following a gruelling six-month schedule that involved plenty of touring, some studio time, working on campaigns and making appearances where necessary, international superstar Tyla is back like she never left, as she is set to make her MET Gala debut this year.
The Metropolitan Museum has revealed the highly anticipated dress code, theme, co-chairs, and host for this year’s edition of the prestigious event, which will take place this May. ‘Tailored for you’ will be the order of the day, and some of our favourite celebrities will perform an ode to menswear and suit through their various interpretations of the theme.
Furthermore, the Met’s costume institute has revealed that they will be bringing the longstanding historical convention of a host committee, which will serve alongside the panel of hosts announced last year, including some notable names like Lewis Hamilton, Lebron James, Pharrell Williams Coleman Domingo, and A$AP Rocky.
Coming as no surprise, our pretty girl from Joburg has scored herself an honourable mention as one of the many household names that will form part of this coveted committee. The committee is made up of a plethora of global stars who take up diverse roles in the entertainment industry at large. The list includes powerful women along the likes of global athletes Sha’Carri Richardson, Angel Reese, Simone Biles, musicians Janelle Monae and Doechi, as well as renowned author and feminist Chimamanda Adichie and many more notable names.

Anyone who knows anything about the Met Gala knows what a defining moment this is for the youngster, as she continues to establish herself as not only the biggest pop star to come out of South Africa but also a notable name in the fashion industry, as we’ve seen through the numerous jaw-dropping looks she and her team consistently pull off anytime she steps out. A nod from fashion mogul Anna Wintour in the infancy of your career is not an achievement that many get to boast, but of course, the uppity African has shown that she is here to shake the global stage up.
