South Africa’s pop-piano princess is slowly singing her way to global dominance.
Just like her hit song Water, Tyla has been a name that is on everyone’s lips as she continues to captivate her audience with several smash hits that guarantee the wiggling of a dance move.
While she has spent just a few years in the entertainment industry, cleaning up trophies appears to have become something she does for fun as in 2024 alone she recently won at least 20 awards, some of which included a Grammy, BET Award, MTV Music Award, MTV European Music Awards, Billboard Awards, South African Music Award as well as Metro FM Music Awards.
At just 22 years of age, there is no stopping her now as the ‘pretty girl from Joburg’ recently earned herself yet another big achievement.
This comes after she ended a 57-year drought by becoming the second ever African artist to have to have two songs appear on the Billboard Hot100 chart list for songs, Water and Push to Start.
Until now this record has been held by musical legend Miriam Makeba who for years has been the only female African singer to have two of her songs ranked on the prestigious chart list that being the popular Pata Pata, as well as Lovely Lies.
Until last year she was the highest-ranked African female to have been on the charts, with Pata Pata reaching the twelfth spot, however, in 2014 Tyla’s, Water, surpassed this reaching the seventh spot.
Recently the local streaming platform, Showmax, brought excitement to her African audiences as she premiered her homecoming concert to all her local fans. Meanwhile, DSTV customers will also get in on the action as the show will soon be made available to all subscribers.
