The highly anticipated return of Mzansi Magic’s eighth season of one of their most popular reality TV shows, Uthando Nesthembu, is finally upon us. As expected, there is much to unpack, as the first two episodes were filled with various talking points for viewers to deliberate.
20h00 on Wednesdays will no longer be the same as this season is set to shake things up as the long-awaited wife number five has made her grand entrance, and will be in the spotlight as viewers carefully analyse her and how she fits into this complicated family dynamic. For those who must have been living under a rock and unfamiliar with the show, Uthando Nesthembu follows polygamous businessman Musa Mseleku as he navigates his relationships with his now five wives and a plethora of children.
As expected, this show is full of drama and provides peak entertainment for viewers. Musa and his wives depict the realities of polygamous family dynamics and illuminate certain cultural practices that have often been deemed taboo for television. The show was the first of its kind and became an instant hit, as it resonated immensely with South Africans.
Although it is merely the beginning of the new season, the show is already proving to live up to the hype as viewers deliberate on a few interesting scenes. Wife number two, Khanya Yeni has emerged as a fan favourite once again as her nonchalant attitude and straightforward nature have intrigued viewers for a few seasons now. When asked what mzansi should expect from her this season, she took a jab at her sister-wife Thobile Khumalo for calling her ‘delulu’ last season and revealed that she would continue to be delulu as MaKhumalo had referred to her.

Wife number five is predictably a big talking point for two reasons. First, Musa has been eluding her arrival to the homestead essentially since the first season, and viewers have been impatiently waiting for her arrival and the marriage. Secondly, viewers have noted the significant age gap between Musa and his new partner, as it has been revealed that she is older than his firstborn, Sne.
Furthermore, it appears users are not convinced that Samke is the original number five who Musa had consistently been referring to in previous seasons. Rather, they believe hat she was strategically chosen and added to the cast, and her relationship with Musa was still in its infancy with both trying to get to know each other.
“That date sounds like people that are on a first date and getting to know each other,” says one YouTube user

Similarly to the past few seasons, viewers are still not convinced that wife number four, Mbali Ngabe’s heart is still in the marriage and the whole dynamic. These users believe that she could make a run for it any day now when analysing her attitude towards Musa and the rest of the wives.
#Uthandonesthembu This is Mangwabe 100% of the time whenever she is with Musa. I have never her laughing and feeling lovey dovey around Musa ๐๐๐๐ she is always just irritated by his presence pic.twitter.com/KZwwNJpHq4
