Former Miss South Vanessa Carreira-Coutroulis reflected about how winning Miss South Africa 22 years ago changed her life.
Taking to her Instagram just before Natasha Joubert from Tshwane was crowned Miss South Africa 2023, the mom of four was feeling nostalgic and reminisced about her time as Miss SA.
“22 years ago my life changed forever. Overnight, I went from being a 21-year-old student from Boksburg to having the privilege of representing our beautiful country both at home and internationally,” she wrote.
She reflected on the amazing opportunities the title came with and how these opportunities changed her life.
“The exciting travel, the people I met & the opportunities that were presented to me changed me forever. I am forever grateful to @official_misssa for the #onceinalifetime experience,” she said.
She concluded by wishing all the finalists goodluck.
“Today, another young woman will join our #sisterhood and have her moment to shine within the constellation of previous titleholders that I am so honoured to be amongst. #Goodluck to all of our beautiful finalists! ? Will you be watching today on @sabc3 ? #MissSA #MissSA2023,” she added.

Many took to her comments section and also reminisced on their memories of when she was crowned as Miss SA. This is what some of them had to say:
“How is that you still look the same ❤️ I remember this day like it was yesterday. You were my grans favourite from the beginning and she said you’re definitely going to take the crown ? ?she always had an eye for natural beauty.”
“Oh V! I remember watching you win and feeling so elated and Star struck by you! Your grace and beauty! Little did I know that just years later I would join you in the most special sisterhood! ??.”
