Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine is on a quest to clear his name after a viral video circulating the internet landed the shot-stopper in hot water.
The video making its rounds shows Sipho along with a few teammates in what appears to be the team’s dressing room making plans to get involved in sports betting.
In the video one person in the background could be heard saying, “Sipho I want you to bet now.”
To this, he responded saying, “12 May, half past five. Old Trafford, I’m going for straight win R600. I’m only betting two teams I’ll be waiting for that R600 at twelve.”
While the world football body Fifa forbids players from participating in sports betting, the club has since denied that its players were guilty.
With the video making its rounds all over the internet, Orlando Pirates have since released a statement on the matter.

In the statement released on Wednesday. The club wrote: “The club has noted a video circulating on social media involving two of our players discussing betting. We would like to clarify that the players in the video did not place any bets.
According to the club, the video captured a light-hearted moment where the players pretended to place a bet on an English Premiership match.
“As a club, we are fully aware of the regulations regarding betting. Betting on any sport is strictly prohibited for any professional player.”
“The players recognise their error in judgement and have since apologised. However, due to the seriousness of this matter, the club has instituted its own internal investigation to ensure that no player is involved in any form of sports betting as this would constitute a breach in the club handbook that all players are signatory to.”
