South African businessman Vusi Thembekwayo has caused some controversy after his recent comments following the death of South African rapper AKA.
Thembekwayo was critical of the South African Police Services (SAPS) for failing to find AKA’s killer, before claiming that the Apartheid police would have found the killer within 24 hours.
Speaking to eNCA’s “Power to Truth“, to discuss the country’s current financial crisis, Thembekwayo mentioned the difference between the ANC government’s “incapability” versus the Apartheid government’s “capability” and he used AKA’s death as his example.
“Let me make this as a controversial statement… If, God forbid, what happened to Kiernan Forbes happened during apartheid, and the apartheid government wanted to find the killer, they would have found that killer in 24 hours,” he said.

Thembekwayo then asked how it was possible to go from such a capable state to an incapable state. He also acknowledged the poor treatment of people of colour by the Apartheid government, yet still mentioned how the governing system worked. He justified his comments on Twitter.
“Fact: Apartheid was a crime against humanity. Also a fact: the Apartheid state machinery was incredibly capable. BOTH OF THOSE THINGS CAN BE TRUE AT ONCE. Don’t be so keen to be offended that you miss blatant truths.”
Many people responded strongly and reminded him that the Apartheid government only served and did good for the minority.

Fact: It’s easy to supply for few when you segregate the majority.
Apartheid state machinery did an incredible job at apartheid agendas. We got access to flushing toilets in early 2000s man. We only got our roads tared in the 2010s and electricity late 90s.

AKA was killed in Durban on February 10, with Police Minister Bheki Cele claiming that police are hard at work to find the killers, with “significant” progress made in the investigation into the musician’s murder.
