“Maluphakanyisw’ uphondo lwayo” is a South African national anthem line that translates to ‘May her glory be lifted high.’
South Africa continues to beam with pride as many of our South African national-level competitors are not only qualifying to compete at the highest level of competitions but have also been deemed as the world champions for various sports and competitions on a national and global level.
It comes as no doubt that our flag is being lifted high as South Africans continue to prove their dominance as they continuously take the number one spot of being world champions over and over again.
Apart from the National Rugby team, the Springboks – who won the 2023 RWC last year – many other South Africans followed suit and gained deserving spots in various sporting codes and national-level competitions that took place.
While many South African teams may not have received the deserved recognition, it is not too late to celebrate their wins as a country as they continue to raise our flag and do extremely well.
Here are some of the sports that South Africa has been titled as champions in:
- Dricus du Plessis: Ultimate Fighting Championship Middleweight Champion (UFC).
- Jackson van Tonder Chauke: Boxing IBO World Flyweight Champion.
- Aldrich Potgieter: The youngest winner in the Korn Ferry Tour to win The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic 2023.
