A few weeks ago Mzansi citizens were shocked with the news of a famous TikToker who has allegedly been claiming to be a medical doctor selling medical products to many people on the famous social network. Well, the famous Dr Matthew Bongani Lani has found himself in the limelight again after he was caught at the Helen Joseph hospital disguised as a doctor wearing a surgical mask, a skull cap, and a stethoscope hanging from his neck.
The infamous “doctor” did all of this for social media content in attempting to prove to many that he is indeed a doctor after he was denied by the Gauteng Department of Health as an employee at Johannesburg’s Helen Joseph Hospital. The bogus doctor was also denied by the Cambridge International College after he claimed he had matriculated with them.
In a video meant to convince the public that he is indeed an employee at the government hospital, the TikToker went live after coming out of “surgery”. As he entered the hospital it became obvious that he did not want to be noticed as he kept pulling his mask and skull cal to cover his face.
Videos later emerged of Matthew or Bongani (as his real name is still unknown) injuring himself in an attempt to escape through a window at the government premises.
The video, shows the security guard repeatedly asking why he attempted to break free, but he dismissed the claims, saying that he never tried to run. When he was shown his stethoscope he denied it, claiming “that is not mine”.

He was later sent to what looks like a security office at the hospital. Speaking to an official, the bogus doctor was asked if he went to the hospital theatre’s locker room and he agreed.
He added:
“I honestly did not mean any harm.”
The official explained to him that he has been warned before, and he responded by asking “warned by who”. The officer then told him that he was warned by the doctor he was impersonating to which he responded by denying that he was impersonating any doctor.
He was later found in possession of medication which he often sells to his patients and alleged that it was his own. When told he was to be handed over to the police for disguising as a doctor he started apologising.
