
Internet users were left stunned after a TikTok video of a white man working as a ‘gaatjie’ for a taxi driver in Sea Point, Cape Town went viral, with many users commenting on the man’s ‘positive attitude’ while performing his duties.
In a video shared by a TikTok account with the username @mandisa_banda recently, the man identified as Ben in the comments can be seen hopping in and out of the taxi to allow passengers into the taxi in the suburb of Sea Point.
In the clip, the man can be seen being casually dressed for his job, wearing a headband, a long-sleeved top and long pants that ‘resemble pyjamas’.
Gaatjies are individuals who operate the door and take people’s fares, which are usually conducted by people of colour in the taxi industry, according to an entertainment publication Briefly.
At the time of writing this article, the video has garnered over 32 000 likes, 637 comments and 3 496 shares.
