Receiving your child’s items after they have passed is a moment no parent wishes to think of.
This is what Nokhanya Mkutukana, the mother of the late Bulelwa “Zahara” Mkutukana had to go through receiving the singer’s award trophies and her most loved item, her famous guitar.
Zahara sadly left this earth eight days ago, on Monday the 11th of December in a Johannesburg private hospital after suffering from liver complications.
Arriving in the dusty streets of Phumlani, an informal settlement just a few kilometers away from East London, the global sensation and multi-award winning Zahara’s music accolades were handed over to her mother Nokhanya.
Taking the Country Girl hitmaker’s precious guitar to her family, actress, radio presenter and businesswoman Lusanda Mbane carried Zahara’s guitar while two gentlemen carried two boxes full of Zahara’s awards.
This guitar has been a trademark for the late singer from the first time she got introduced to the Mzansi’s public in 2011, through her popular song Loliwe.
From the first time Zahara was introduced, the star shone bright, and her talent grew to greater heights, earning her awards such as Best Female Artist, and Album of the Year at the 2012 SAMA’s for her debut album Loliwe. She also won best SAMA awards for Best Selling Album and Best Female Artist for her second Album Phendula and many more awards after that.
Walking inside the Zahara’s home with the guitar on her back, Lusanda handed over the guitar and the awards to the star’s mom. The video was captured by Sino Majangaza and shared by the Eastern Cape based news agency The Daily Dispatch.
