Former Reserve Bank governor Tito Mboweni has a penchant for rustling dishes at awkward hours of the night. While the rest of us dream about food, he’s making it.
Over the years, the 65-year-old has shown off his culinary skills, or lack thereof on X (formerly Twitter). And it’s safe to assume that he’s improved somewhat after taking suggestions from online users: Not too much garlic, hold the salt, don’t drown the chicken.
His most recent dish was an impressive take on the traditional chicken stew. Sharing photos of his chicken dish simmering on the stove, alongside rice, steamed vegetables and pumpkin, he wrote: “In challenging and final victory rally times, cooking is great. Long Live!”
The first thing his followers noticed was his clean cooking surface. But the red flag was the chicken stew which looked tasty enough to eat. They suspected something immediately.

X users didn’t mince their words (excuse the pun) and shared their suspicions.
“Vegetables?!
“Okay.
“Who cooked this?
“The chicken is obviously you, because it has been killed twice. But the veges…? Uncle?,” enquired @GuguStatu.
“No, I don’t think we can credit him with the chicken, it’s just not grey enough,” responded @SurferSilverza.
Of course, online users jumped to conclusions, with @MakiMarish jumping right in: “Clean kitchen
“Perfect meal
“And you have started looking good…
“Please keep her Malume Tito, she is good for you.”
The last time Tito’s loyal X followers concluded he had a lady friend at his place, he vehemently denied the speculation and said he didn’t need a woman to cook and clean for him.
