Mamelodi Sundowns’ Brazilian star Lucas Ribeiro Costa is living up to the hype, standing out as the top performer in the PSL this season, writes DYLAN JOHNSON.
Writing for Soccermag, Dylan explains how the 26-year-old has been a driving force behind Sundowns’ dominance, consistently delivering top-class performances.
Having already surpassed his goal contributions from last season, Lucas is the frontrunner for the 2024-25 Player of the Season award. His ability to dictate play, create chances, and find the back of the net has set him apart from the competition.
Since joining Sundowns from Belgian second-division side SK Beveren, Lucas has only improved, and this season, his partnership with Iqraam Rayners has become one of the most feared attacking duos on the continent. With Sundowns leading the PSL by 15 points and chasing CAF Champions League glory, his influence is undeniable.
While South African fans dream of a Bafana Bafana call-up, Lucas remains ineligible until completing his five-year residency. For now, he continues to dominate the PSL, proving himself as the league’s most valuable player and a key figure in Sundowns’ pursuit of silverware.
