As journalists, it is our duty to keep our finger on the pulse that is the entertainment industry, staying up to date with what’s hot and what’s not. The BONA family can’t help but feel like this new Yanga Chief ‘Lord Faku- The Life of a Dyan’ album is up next.
Similarly to veteran lyricists such as Stogie T, Yanga Chief is one of the more underrated artists in the country as the South African audience has proven to be an intense market to break into when it comes to the hip-hop genre. Yanga is no stranger to smash hits as his catalogue includes chart-toppers such as Utatakho, which he followed up with an electric remix, Ntona Na, and 200.
Yanga also established himself as a notable contender when it comes to a catchy hook and verse during the 2010s and went on an insane run of significant features and singles, including the likes of Run Jozi and Dreamwork.
After somewhat of a four-year hiatus, Yanga marked his long-awaited return with his Lord Faku- The Life of a Dyan album.

After giving the entire album a few listens, it is hard not to be impressed with what he has managed to put together with this project. The 17-track offering is nothing short of spectacular, appearing as though the rapper poured his heart and soul into it. It is one of the more cohesive hip-hop projects to recently come out and displays some great storytelling qualities, while finding a great balance in his intense lyricism and with the commercial sound that the mzansi needs in order to be captivated.
It appears the project seems to resonate quite well with mzansi as it has been dominating the Apple Music charts, cementing itself as the number one album across all genres in its first week. Despite this fact, we still believe that this project deserves even more hype and needs more people to hop on to it as it embodies how diverse and captivating our music can be.
Taking to his Instagram, Yanga penned a message of gratitude to his supporters and all those who have supported him since the release of his album. He reveals that he had not imagined that his work would garner such a reception, and expresses excitement to bring the project to life with the album’s visual representation.
“Andinawo amazwi but what y’all are doing for me is beyond anything I expected. Used to pray for times like this. Being independent is not as easy as it looks but this right here sure makes it all worth it,” his caption reads.
Just like any great project, the masses are struggling to come to a consensus regarding the obvious number 1 hit as the rapper evidently poured his all into this project. However, What If and Peaceful Place ft 25K have emerged as some of the favourites so far, and we as the Bona family believe that Abandiva and Ndim Kwakhona are sleepers that could climb the charts.
