If you are a rugby supporter in South Africa, chances are good that you were just as relieved when the final whistle blew on Saturday evening.
While the entire team did their part to ensure that we made history, one cannot deny that each one of us had a favourite player on the field.
For the young Desmond Koolen, it was his hero Cheslin Kolbe.
Desmond has become popular ever since his mother Adele posted a video of him performing his own rendition of James Brown’s “I feel good” – a video that has been shared by several well-known personalities including actor Will Smith and Wayne Brady.

Meanwhile, during the Rugby World Cup, Desmond, who is also a big fan of Springbok rugby offered some advice to the team captain Siya Kolisi.
The video has over 1 million views – but nothing could prepare him for the ultimate privilege of meeting his heroes in person.
In a new video captured at a celebration event at the Multichoice studios, Desmond was asked to say a few words to the reigning champions, to which addressed his hero – Cheslin Kolbe.
“Cheslin Kolbe – you’re my favourite because you inspire me, so that is why I want to be a pocket rocket just like you.”

It turns out that these sincere words were not just enough to win over Cheslin’s heart, but they also earned Desmond the 2023 World Cup winning gold medal.
It was the moment that melted every South African’s heart. Cheslin’s wife , Layla, entered the comment section bursting with pride.
“My heart 😭😍” Layla commented.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Bala, wife to RnB singer Loyiso Bala added: “Awww this is no doubt going to be one of those moments he recalls as an adult. 🙏🏽”
