In today’s rapidly evolving educational landscape, the call for collaboration echoes louder than ever. The newly appointed Minister of Basic Education, Siviwe Gwarube, a South African politician and member of the Democratic Alliance (DA) is spearheading a transformative initiative to foster partnerships that promise to redefine teaching and learning environments, highlighting the crucial role of coming together in shaping a brighter future for education.
The young minister sets a bold vision for the education system, calling on all communities, SGBs, and trade unions to assist in guarding teaching and learning time as the 3rd term approaches. “It is critical that we ensure there are no disruptions to learning,” she shares on X (formerly Twitter).
As reported on the news publication, IOL, Paul Sauer, Executive Officer of SAOU said, “Minister Gwarube made it clear that she has heard the deeply felt concerns of the education sector, expressed in various reports since her appointment. Her stated intention to set up an inclusive, formally established consultative body to review the school curriculum, goes a long way to calming uncertain waters and setting a positive course for the way forward in education.”
“The SAOU said holding a consultative forum would ensure better outcomes in literacy and numeracy, science and mathematics, the drop-out rate would be reduced, teachers would be up-skilled and appropriate teaching and learning environments provided,” Paul shared.
He also added that this consultative body will provide access to higher education. It will facilitate the transition of learners from education institutions to the workplace, and provide employers with a sufficient learner’s competency profile.
