Instead of rumbling around in your bedroom or bathroom cupboards for branded products to keep yourself healthy, head on over to the kitchen! There, you might find everyday ingredients that are sure to keep you looking fresh.
Beauty brand Aneya, which specialises in natural and organic beauty products, lists five everyday kitchen ingredients you can use for your skin.
Honey for that added glow
Known for its antioxidant property, honey fights free radicals, and protects your skin cells from further damage. As an added benefit, the anti-bacterial property of honey is effective in preventing breakouts and other skin infections.
Providing a skincare routine, Anveya says, “Add one teaspoon of manuka honey to one tablespoon of tomato juice on your face and neck before going to bed. Wash off in the morning with warm water. This is considered to be one of the best night skin care home remedies for glowing and wrinkle-free skin.”
Yoghurt to help prevent dry skin
The lactic acid found in this dairy treat is a natural exfoliator that helps to dissolve dead skin cells, also boosting cell turnover. Yoghurt can also be used as an exfoliator to give you a natural glow.
Start by mixing yoghurt and oatmeal in a bowl, applying the pack to your neck and face. Next, massage in circular motions. Allow the mixure to sit for 5-10 minutes. Then, rinse your face with lukewarm water.
Potatoes to help reduce dark circles
This ground vegetable has skin-lightening and brightening properties. Regarded as effective in reducing dark spots and uneven skin tone, potatoes help lighten the dark area under your eyes.
Try cutting two thin slices of potato. Place them on your eyes for 20-25 minutes.
Almond oil for chapped (winter) lips
Rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids, almond oil can keep your skin well-nourished and moisturised. When the oil is applied to chapped lips overnight, it will give your lips a lush pink colour.
Water
Nothing will give you a glowing complexion like water. “Make sure that you keep yourself hydrated by drinking the required amount of water to have healthy, radiant, and problem-free skin,” says the beauty brand.
Note that the above ingredients may not produce results for everyone. Therefore, you should not substitute the above for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Should you take the natural route, it is best to speak to your qualified healthcare provider.
