Being a beginner can be quite overwhelming as you need to learn different kinds of makeup techniques to achieve your desired makeup looks.
Makeup artist Kasey Spickard states that a cut crease makes a dramatic cut crease using several shades of eyeshadow to highlight the form of the eyes. This crease is defined with a darker shadow, and the lid is filled in with concealer or eye base topped with shadow. The word ‘cut crease’ refers to the stark contrast between the two tones of shadow, as the lid is carved out with a bright colour.
IPSY – an online beauty hub – says that the cut crease eye makeup look has been around since the early 60s which allowed beauty experts and makeup lovers to create dramatic eye makeup looks. This dramatic look expands the eyes and provides more glamour, akin to contouring the eyelids.
Here’s how you can achieve a cut crease makeup look provided by L’Oreal Paris:
-
- Use an eye primer: Apply a thin, even layer of eye primer and use a waterproof pencil eyeliner to define the cut crease. Next, sketch a V shape on the outer corner of the eyelid, extending it into the crease.
- Define your eye crease: Use a waterproof pencil eyeliner to draw the basic shape of your cut crease. Continue the line into the crease, stopping before reaching the inner third of the eye.
- Blend upwards: Use a small fluffy eyeshadow brush to blend the eyeliner out before it sets. The hub suggests blending upward, not onto the eyelid.
- Blend eyeshadow over the top: Apply a medium or dark eye shadow over the eyeliner. Avoid blending the shadow onto the lid.
- Use concealer to clean up: Apply a light concealer in a semi-circle shape on the eyelid, then add eyeshadow on top.
