Cantu is proud to announce that American singer Jordin Sparks is the newest face to join the Cantu ambassador family. Sparks shot to fame in 2007 after winning Season 6 of American Idol at age 17, making her the youngest winner to date. Today she is a well-known and respected name in the music industry, with three studio albums, a Grammy nomination, a Broadway show and a movie under her belt.
While one cannot help but admire her career achievements, it’s her genuine desire to uplift and give back to the natural hair community that makes her the perfect match for Cantu. A natural hair enthusiast, Jordin grew up using Cantu products and like Cantu, she’s a big believer in educating and empowering women to embrace their natural hair.
She told People Magazine: “Everything that they stand for really speaks to me. Besides their amazing products for coils and curls and waves and straight tresses, they also want to do more than just be a brand that sells products,” she says. “They want to uplift the next generation of young women in our communities and anything that I can be a part of that helps encourage women is where I want to be.”
She continues, “I remember hearing a quote that said, ‘You have two hands, one to help yourself and one to help others.’ And I’ve always lived my life by that. For me, what is this platform that I have if I can’t use it to do something better in the world and to add beauty or encouragement and be able to uplift other people.”
Like millions of other women in the world, Jordin is no stranger to the challenges faced by curly-haired women, and admits she sometimes felt “overwhelmed” trying to find products suited to her needs. Today she has overcome those frustrations and has learnt to celebrate her natural hair.
“I always loved my curly hair because you get the best of both worlds. We can have our curls, they can be wild and free, but then we can turn around the next day and have the most beautiful pressed hair ever,” the singer says. “And I think that that’s really beautiful because it’s indicative of all the ways that we can be and all the things that we can represent as well.”
Jordin says that her versatile curls “just do whatever they want. I love that about them. I never know what I’m gonna get. It keeps me on my toes. My hair is free and it’s fun and that’s really how I’m feeling within myself.”
Cantu is excited to have Jordin join them in their community projects such as their involvement in Women Empowering Nations. Cantu has joined forces with this non-profit organization providing mentorship and professional development for girls of colour from marginalized communities by hosting career-readiness workshops and leadership training for young women across the globe.
Dametria Kinsley, Cantu’s Global Vice President of Marketing, says: “She has been a pillar in Black and Brown communities for years through her own philanthropic efforts and we’re excited to join forces to extend additional resources to women all around the world.”
It’s always been Cantu’s mission to celebrate natural hair in all its glory and to encourage women to embrace their natural curls and coils. Cantu’s collection of award-winning products is inspired by your beautifully textured hair in order to help you achieve any look you desire.
Jordin shared her excitement on Instagram: “I’m excited to be a brand ambassador for this award-winning hair care brand to not only serve some looks, but also share resources to equip future female leaders with the knowledge and support needed to succeed in their dreams, all while celebrating their unique beauty!”
