The benefits of potatoes on skin

by Dideka Njemla

The many beneficial nutrients such as calcium, copper, sulphur, vitamin C, phosphorous, phytonutrients and many more that are found in this vegetable can facilitate many improvements and benefits to our skin and different textures.

Providing us with the many benefits that potatoes have on our delicate skin is Be Bodywise –  an expert-led solutions wellness revolution website. The best part about these DIY home remedies is that you know and are informed of what the product is and the type of nutrients it entails.

According to Be Bodywise, these are some of the skin benefits that potatoes guarantee:

  • Minimising acne

Be Bodywise states that studies have shown that compounds found in potatoes such as azelaic acid and cytokine aid towards inhibiting the formation of pimples.

  • Brightens skin

Potatoes help towards gradually improving various skin issues that people face such as dark spots, hyperpigmentation and the reduction of blemishes.

  • Natural moisturiser

The hyaluronic acid present in potatoes not only offers moisture but also entails abilities that hydrate and replenish skin.

  • Reduces dark circles

The combination of compounds such as ascorbic acid, riboflavin and vitamin B are said to improve the overall health of eyes and target the reduction of stubborn spots and dark circles.

Here are a few DIY methods in which you can use potatoes in your skincare routine:

  • Face mask for dry skin

As advised by Times Food –  a website provider that brings the latest food news, kitchen hacks and diet plans – set aside the squeezed juice from grated potatoes and add tablespoons of honey. Apply the mixture to your face and neck and allow it to set for 20 minutes and rinse off with cold water.

  • Face masks for hyperpigmentation

Using a 1:2 tablespoon ratio, add tomato juice to potato juice. Allow this mixture to rest on your face and neck for 10 minutes then rinse with cold water.

  • Treating dark circles

Times Food states that one has to place products of a grated potato under or around your eyes. After allowing it to rest on those areas for 10 minutes, rinse off with cold water.
