Imagine wearing eyeshadow with hooded eyelids. Don’t worry, it’s not as terrible as it sounds. These eyeshadow techniques will help your eyeshadow show.
A hooded eye shape usually prevents eyeshadow from showing properly sometimes causing your eye makeup to crease on top of your eye.
Beauty hub, InStyle, advises makeup users to understand their eye shape before purchasing eye makeup, further explaining that, hooded eyes have a distinct form, with an extra skin layer covering the eyelid. They have prominent lash lines and eyelashes. Apply eyeshadow and contour to the eye crease to make them more visible. This will help them stand out and highlight their strongest attributes.
MAC Cosmetics senior national makeup artist, Keri Blair suggests highlighting natural features with a tight liner on the lashline and volumising mascara. For a hooded eye shape, highlight the brows and use a softer shadow hue on the lids.
Celebrity makeup artist Nydia Figueroa adds that, “For hooded eyes, it’s all about the placement of shadow. I also find that matte eyeshadows and eyeliners work best on those with hooded eyes because it doesn’t reflect as much light as a shimmer or frost. You can still apply shimmer in the inner corners to brighten and open up the eye area.”
L’Oreal Paris provides eyeshadow techniques for hooded eyeshadow:
1. Apply a long-wearing eye primer to your lids, concentrating on the brow bone area.
2. Create a semi-circular crease from the outer edge of your eye to the inner corner.
3. Trace over the line and blend the shadow upward to create a diffused look.
4. Use shimmer to enhance the eyes. To create more openness, highlight your inner corner and brow bone.
5. To make a cat eye, draw a line from the outer corner of your eye and link it to the wing.
6. To finish the look, define your lashes with waterproof mascara that lengthens them.
