As summer approaches, many of us struggle with our hair care, as the heat can lead to dryness by draining moisture.

Haircare hub, Dove India, recommends getting into a summer hair care schedule as a way to battle high humidity and preserve healthy roots, ensuring freshness throughout the season.

Summer is a time for healthy hair, but keep in mind that the sun can cause a variety of hair issues such as colour fade, frizz, and dry ends.

Ogario London notes that, while the sun is known to offer the necessary vitamin D for new hair growth, it can also cause hair to dry. The publication adds that understanding the structure of the hair, which includes the cuticle, cortex, and medulla, can help you avoid dryness and keep it looking lustrous.

Various haircare hubs provide essentials you will need this summer:

  • Trim split ends: This action can prevent further damage that could happen to your hair as it encourages more hair growth. It keeps hair looking healthy and makes styling easier.
  • Protect hair from sun damage: Use hair products with UV protection or light oil, or wear sun-protective headwear.
  • Avoid heat styling: Use air-drying, braiding, and rollers for wavy curls and bouncy curls. Heatless curling methods promote hair growth.
  • Opt for protective styles: Wear braids or buns to prevent sun exposure and damage.
  • Gentle cleansing: Use moisturising shampoo and conditioner with natural oils and weekly deep conditioning treatments. Detangle when hair is wet and conditioned.
  • Wear a bonnet to protect your hair: Use a satin bonnet or sleep on a satin or silk pillowcase to prevent frizz and maintain moisture.

According to Dove India, In summer, avoid frequent shampooing to retain natural moisture. Daily bathing is believed to help oily scalps.

The above source also mentions that humidity may lead to frizzy hair, so UV-protectant serums can smooth cuticles. Regular trims help manage split ends, and to combat hair loss from UV rays and air conditioning, use anti-hair loss shampoo and conditioner, concludes Dove India.
