Taking care of your hair means taking note of what products are friendly for your hair type, tracking a pattern of when your hair normally sheds, and what revives it from shedding. This self-care process also includes knowing when to braid, curl, and wash your hair.
However, what if you have decided to cut your hair for whatever reason? When is the best time to do it? The Creative and Education Director of Rodney Wayne Hair Salon, Newton Cook suggests that winter is often an ideal season for the big chop and this, is according to reasons he has observed to be effective.
Newton believes that heat styling and indoor air conditioning can cause harm to hair. According to Newton, “In the shorter daylight hours of the colder months, keeping long hair moisturised with masks and leave-in conditioning treatments can feel like way more of a hassle.” He further states that in order to get your length back strong and healthy in time for the summer, winter is a fantastic time to reset and trim any damaged lengths.
In agreement with Newton, Abhi Sohni who also works at the above mentioned salon states that the greatest season to cut hair short is winter, “especially when you’re wearing layers of clothing, jackets, beanies, and scarves, all of which can cause your hair to get more thick, frizzy, and tangled as you put them on and take them off. Short hair requires less effort. Additionally, it looks good.”
The Inso Hair School reports that cutting hair in winter is a practical decision because short hair will dry more quickly after washing and will not become wet or icy when you walk outside in the cold. The hair school, adds that chopping hair should be based on what you believe complements your appearance. “Shorter hair typically draws attention to your face more, which might be a pleasant adjustment if you’re used to viewing oneself with long, flowing hair.”
