The cold weather has finally arrived! And that means we finally get to bust out our boots, cosy jerseys, and trench coats. The only problem is how we can style a trench coat properly. Do you tie the belt? Can you wear it with a dress?
Let’s find out.
When to wear a trench coat
Styled correctly, a trench coat can be your winter wardrobe’s most versatile piece of clothing. It’s perfect for a dressed-up look for a day in the office, or your go-to jacket with a pair of jeans for a coffee date.
It’s also the perfect top layer when the day is warm with a slight chill in the air during autumn or spring. You can indeed pair it with a dress, or skirt for an elevated look.
How to style a trench coat
Elevate a casual fit
Trench coats elevate any and every look. A beige or black trench coat pairs perfectly with a pair of jeans and a simple t-shirt or pullover. Topped off with a pair of loafers or sneakers, a trench coat can make the most casual outfits look put-together.

You can also dress up a simple tracksuit pants and hoodie outfit with a coat.
Top off a formal affair
Trench coats also work for formal events. Done right, they add the perfect luxurious flair to any evening outfit, including evening dresses and suits. Depending on the theme of the evening, the classic red, beige or black trench coat works best.
However, you can pull off a faux leather coat for an edgy but classy look.

Perfect for work
Of course, the perfect place for a trench coat is the office. Whether it’s casual Friday or you need to pop into an ExCo meeting, you’ll always look put together with a trench coat. Any colour or type of trench coat looks great for a work outfit, including bright colours or more traditional styles.
