Finding your personal style can take years if you do not put in the effort. We all have experienced standing in front of a closet full of clothes but not knowing what to wear. Truth is, finding your personal style is probably going to take a lot of trials and errors but it’s all worth it when you finally get it right.
The Every Girl suggests these tips to finding your personal fashion style:
Use pinterest as a mood board
It’s always great to get inspiration from somewhere, seeing what other people are wearing and what you may like from those outfits could bring you closer to finding your personal style. On pinterest, pin only the looks that you really love.
Having all these different images of outfits in one place will allow you to take a look at the bigger picture and analyse the similarities between the different looks.
Set aside a day to go look for clothes, not buy
As tempting as this may be, try not to buy anything. A lot may hate ‘window shopping’ but it’s necessary when trying to find your personal fashion style. Take time to go browse around what the stores have at the mall. See what each store has to offer, it could sometimes be really hard to nail your sizing in certain items.
Step outside of your comfort zone
You’ll never really know if you like something until you try it on. Fashion is supposed to be fun, allow yourself to try those things you wouldn’t normally go for, you’ll never know.
Start slow and evaluate the clothes you wear on a daily basis
Over the course of a few months, buy a few pieces here and there. Invest in quality pieces you genuinely can see yourself wearing for years, regardless of the trends that come and go. Your style will evolve so it’ll become important to reevaluate what you have and do not want to keep.
Mimic the looks of people whose fashion you adore
Turn into your favourite style icon or favourite fashion influencer. Scroll on your instagram, see what your favs are wearing and if you like the outfit, why not try it. Trying to think of similar outfits I could sport and with items I already owned.
