Here’s a fashion round-up of who wowed us and who left us rolling our eyes at the MAMAs.
Babes in Brights: Jessica Nkosi, Bucie and Liesl Laurie
Jessica Nkosi leaves us underwhelmed in a curtain-inspired gown. There is far too much going on with this dress – the end result is complicated and untidy.
Miss SA
Liesl Laurie is giving us matric dance flashbacks. Yellow is a great shade for her complexion, but a lot more could’ve have been done with the dress to make it interesting.
Bucie
The easy to love singer opts for an elegant approach and pull it off with ease. We love the simplicity of her dress. She is glowing in a soft shade of blue.
Winner: This one definitely goes to Bucie for showing us her softer side and pulling it off with style and grace.
Eye Popping Prints: K.O, Cassper Nyovest, Cyprian Ndlovu and Jhene Aiko
Cassper Nyovest
Cassper creates an interesting dimension to his all black ensemble by dabbling with some colour in a long length blazer. He looks fresh and different – thumbs up!
Mr Cash Time
Blue and white looks alright on K.O. We appreciate the graffiti-inspired vibe he is trying to go for, but we are not fans of it.
Cyprian
Cyprian obviously didn’t get the memo that he was attending a red carpet event and decided to go the shirtless route. Not a good look at all! It was the wrong place and time to be showing off his torso.
Jhene Aiko
Jhene Aiko pays homage to Africa in a printed two piece. Although casual, it’s true to her personal style so we would expect nothing less.
Winner
Cassper takes the cup – he looks fresh and oh so cool. Big ups to him.
The great reveal: Nadia Nakai and Nomuzi Mabena
Nomuzi Mabena
Nomuzi has us lost for words. We don’t even know where to begin to count the ways this dress is a fail. It’s a tragic disappointment hopefully never to be repeated.
Nadia Nakai
The self proclaimed Queen Of Rap takes the slit to new heights as she leaves almost nothing to the imagination.
Winner: This category has no winners. The thigh high slit trend needs to be put to rest now; it’s overdone, predictable and boring.
Neutralised: Pearl Thusi, AKA and Terry Pheto
Pearl Thusi
Pearl is a pretty princess in a floor length flowing gown. It doesn’t blow us away, but she looks good.
Terry Pheto
Terry redeems herself in white after her Durban July fail. The dress fits like a glove and the jacket adds a fashionable twist to her overall look.
AKA
We must say we’re disappointed with AKA. Granted, he’s not one to go overboard when it comes to styling, but this time, he tones it all the way down in ripped knit and ripped jeans. This one gets a no from us.
Winner:
the winner is Terry, who dazzles in crisp white
Black and gold bombshells: Bonang Matheba, Boity and D’banj
Boity
There is no doubt Boity has the body for a jumpsuit, so we cannot fault anything about how she pulls it off. She looks stunning.
Queen B and D’Banj
Bonang is demure in all black with a touch of sparkle. Black looks good on her but we prefer Queen B in bright colours.
D’banj is photo-shoot fresh. His look is sophisticated, modern and top class. He has us smiling from ear to ear and we are impressed.
Winner:
D’banj takes the win, no questions asked. His look is everything.
