We all love a red carpet affair and this year we got our fill of the beautiful gowns that graced numerous events. Here are our top five international looks from abroad from the year that was.
Megan Good
Megan is one of the celebrities we give props to for pulling off the ever popular sheer trend in a classy way. She stole the show at the “Think Like A Man” premier earlier this year as she radiated in an all-white sheer gown by designer to the stars Michael Castello.
Lupita Nyongo
Lupita was the name on everyone’s lips and with good reason. Our personal favourites included the red gown she wore to the Golden Globes as well as the icy blue dress she wore to the Oscars. The cape detail on the gown left fashionistas green with envy and cemented her place in the style blazer category. Another look which blew us away was the icy blue dress with a plunging neckline. She was as pretty as a princess and the whole ensemble including the accessories was enough to melt our hearts.
Keke Palmer
This starlet was one to watch as she set to show the world she was no longer a little girl. This tailored suit instantly made its way to our must-have list and we were not alone as it was soon spotted on every celebrity both internationally and locally. The deep v-neck of the blazer exuded a mature sense of style and gave off just enough sexy without being trashy. We continue to fall in love with her evolving style and can’t wait to see what 2015 has to bring.
Rihanna
What’s a best dressed list without Rihanna? Fashion icon Riri gave us a multitude of red carpet favourites but the one we loved the most had to be this all white ensemble she wore to the Met Gala event. The draped skirt paired with the open back cropped top was understated perfection. It also brought about the reintroduction of the crop top which has become one of the biggest trends this year.
Nicki Minaj
We saw a different side to Nicki Minaj in 2014. She got rid of the outrageous hair and wild outfits and opted to show us a more feminine side to her character. We can’t say we miss the old Nicki as we found ourselves impressed with what she had to offer on the red carpet time and time again. This animal print dress that she wore to the MTV VMA’S was faultless. She did a great job of pairing it with nude heels and simple yet striking makeup to create a great balance between fierce and femme.
