If you are part of the “January budget is too tight to get a new hairstyle” gang or you just want to keep your braids in for longer, then this one is for you.
Braids are quite pricey, especially if you get them done professionally. Therefore, keeping them in for the recommended 4 weeks can be quite unrealistic.
Well, if you are too broke to get a new hairstyle or just want to revamp your braids, we have got you covered.
Today’s Woman suggests these tips on how to revamp your braids:
Here’s all the products you will need:
- Mousse
- A bowl of water or a spray bottle with water in it
- Cotton pads
- Edge control
- Hair oil – it can be jojoba oil, tea tree, it’s really up to you
- Leave-in conditioner
- Braiding gel or soft gel
- Rattail comb
- Mini hair clips/pins
Method:
1. Take a cotton pad and damp it with water. Use the wet cotton pad to clean along the lines of your braids. This will help with removing any build up from products and dirt.
2. Once all your lines are clean, mix some leave-in conditioner and hair oil. Spray this on your scalp and massage it. Leave this in for about 20 minutes before moving on to the next step.
3. Take one strand and neaten the original parting around it with your rattail comb. Apply some loose braiding gel and apply that around the braid sweeping the hair towards the braid. Go ahead and twist the hair at the base and secure it with a mini hair clip/pin till you get you desired tightness.
4. When the braid is as tight as you desire, you can go ahead and apply some edge control to your edges to sleek them down. Grab your mousse bottle and apply a generous amount to flatten any flyaways and finish off with hair spray.
When you have followed all the steps, using the correct products, you braids will look fresh and can last you for another few weeks.
