Although society is now shifting towards encouraging women to find and embrace their inner beauty, very little is being said about the extent women have gone to be considered beautiful. These are five most-do but actually unnecessary beauty routines women have.
Tweezing/shaping eyebrows
Yanking out your brows from its follicles is not enjoyable. But, women all over the world do this to achieve defined eyebrows; few women are gifted with eyebrows that don’t need tweezing. Everyone else has to sit tight while their hair is being painfully shaped and sized.
Waxing/ shaving
This is another routine that involves hair removal in small and large areas. It’s long-lasting because your hair doesn’t grow back for 3 to 6 weeks. With this said though, no woman looks forward to having a cloth strip glued on her womanly bits and quickly stripped away. Ouch!
Weaving and braiding
Braiding is not that bad, but some stylists are so rough with your hair that by the time they finish, placing your head on your pillow is pure misery. Another problem is that the process lasts more than 4 hours. Women who love wears probably secretly wished that they could take it off, scratch their scalps and put the weave back on. But, nobody is complaining, though.
Wearing (ridiculously) high heels
Heel lengths these days are the devils weapon! It’s very difficult to walk in most of of them. But just go to a mall or an event, and you’re bound to spot a woman limping in her heels and gasping for breath, all in the name of looking fabulous. The damage to not only your posture, but ankles and toes isn’t good for anybody, which is why we don’t blame women who carry a comfortable pair of slippers or pumps in their bag as a back-up plan!
Curling/Ironing Hair
Curling natural hair is scary, to say the least. Sometimes we let unskilled stylists curl our hair to our own detriment (Our Digital Assistance, Portia, even has a horror story where the curling iron fell on her thigh, and has a scar to prove it!) Not only is trusting someone with a burning electrical appliance not easy, it’s also very scary. The minute the stylist finishes, hopefully without any incidents, you breathe a sigh of relief and thank your lucky (beauty) stars!
