Winter season can be harsh on your hair. It may require some extra steps on your hair care routine to ensure that your crown is healthy and strong to survive the change in season.
If you are feeling a bit stuck or unsure of ways to tend to your hair needs, follow these quick four tips.
1. Use dense products
Cold weather tends to absorb moisture during the winter season. So, to avoid this – after your regular wash-and-go, apply your favourite leave-in conditioner, followed by an oil of your choice. Whether it be: tea-tree, castor or flaxseed, this will help you strengthen your hair.
TIP: Use in moderation to avoid hair grease.
2. Protein treatments
A good protein treatment should consist of natural ingredients such as: egg; avocado; mayonnaise. This will also eliminate hair breakage and split-ends. Nutrients in a protein treatment will nourish, soften, and keep your hair strong and healthy.
TIP: Apply once a month, or as per hair density.
3. Less is more
Avoid over-washing your hair during the winter season: it strips your hair from moisture, natural oils and nutrients. This can be harmful to your hair strands. From cornrows to braids or twists and wigs; you could opt for protective styles for less maintenance.
TIP: Don’t keep protective styles for too long, it may damage your hair and hairline.
4. Avoid wet hair
Regularly wetting your hair in cold weather may cause your ends to freeze and leave your hair damaged. Instead dry your hair at home in the evening or diffuse your hair in the morning.
TIP: Mask your ends with a cream or conditioner to help alleviate any unwanted density.
