Constipation can be an uncomfortable and frustrating condition that affects many people. Incorporating fibre-rich fruits into your diet can help alleviate constipation symptoms and promote regular bowel movements. According to Healthline, here are four fruits that are known for their natural laxative properties and can provide relief from constipation.

Prunes:

Prunes, also known as dried plums, are renowned for their effectiveness in combating constipation. They are high in fibre, sorbitol, and phenolic compounds that act as natural laxatives. Prunes help soften stools, improve bowel movement, and stimulate the digestive system.

Apples:

Apples are an excellent source of insoluble fibre, particularly in their skin. This fibre adds bulk to the stool, promoting regular bowel movements and relieving constipation. Additionally, apples contain pectin, a soluble fibre that acts as a prebiotic, nourishing beneficial gut bacteria.

Kiwi:

Kiwi is a delicious fruit packed with fibre, including both soluble and insoluble types. Soluble fibre aids in water absorption, while insoluble fibre adds bulk to the stool. Kiwi also contains an enzyme called actinidain, which helps break down proteins and supports healthy digestion.

Pears:

Pears are another excellent fruit for relieving constipation. They are rich in dietary fibre, especially insoluble fibre, which adds bulk to the stool and promotes regular bowel movements. Pears also contain a natural sugar alcohol called sorbitol, which has a mild laxative effect.
Incorporating these fibre-rich fruits into your daily diet can help relieve constipation and support overall digestive health. Remember to drink plenty of water alongside a fibre-rich diet to aid in the digestion process and keep your body hydrated. If constipation persists or becomes chronic, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation and guidance.
