While we care for our body from our head all the way down to our toes, vaginal health is often neglected.
Fortunately, there are inexpensive ways to show your vagina the same love which can be done by purchasing and eating certain foods.
1. Avocado
Health and wellness information hub Black Health Matters states that the healthy fats found in avocados support healthy vaginal walls and keep it naturally lubricated. Noting that you can eat it in moderation, Black Health Matters also shares that avocados help prevent vaginal dryness, itching and burning.
2. Yoghurt
“When it comes to yoghurt, everything boils down to the good bacteria it carries,” says Health Shots, an information hub dedicated to women’s health. “It keeps the gut healthy and contributes to better immunity. It levels out the pH balance of your vagina, keeping dryness, itching, and bad odour away.”
3. Cranberry juice
According to Black Health Matters, this drink helps balance the vagina’s pH level while its acidic properties help fight urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by bacteria, vaginal infections and other problems. “To reap the benefits, drink a glass of unsweetened, organic cranberry juice daily. Those who like the tart flavour can even eat a handful of cranberries each day. You can opt to take cranberry tablets, but consult your doctor first,” notes the publication.
4. Citrus fruits
Citrus fruits such as oranges and lemons are great for vaginal health, thanks to vitamin C found in them, says Health Shots. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine Research states that the regular consumption of vitamin C lowers the risk of recurring vaginal infections by half due to ascorbic acid.
5. Eggs
Health Shots also notes that the egg’s yolk is one of the best sources for vitamin D. They add, “It has been observed that people who suffer from bad vaginal health also lack vitamin D in their bodies. This makes them more prone to infections which ultimately leads to an unhealthy vagina.”
